Workshop goals:
* To provide practical advice on creating and delivering interesting, engaging training sessions in a library setting
* To explore different instructional styles to establish the best approach both for yourself as the instructor, and for the variety of audiences you may encounter

* To introduce strategies for dealing with the common training challenges that occur in libraries, including speaker nerves and training mixed ability groups
Who should participate:
This workshop will be of interest to anyone who is currently involved - or may be involved in the future - in training or programming in their library.
Description:
Training has become an integral part of our profession, whether providing instruction for patrons or other library staff. Working with adult learners and mixed ability groups creates a unique set of challenges, which can often seem quite daunting to the new or inexperienced trainer. This workshop will explore a variety of different instructional styles, tools and techniques for designing and delivering engaging training sessions, inspiring your audience to learn, and overcoming the common training challenges encountered in libraries.
Instructor Bio:

She is the Assistant Manager for Website and Community Development at Vancouver Public Library and was previously VPL's Training Librarian, a position in which she was responsible for coordinating the staff and public training portfolios for the system.
