Opening Doors to Information: A CILS Workshop, Feb 21, 2007

Opening Doors to Information: A CILS Workshop, Feb 21, 2007

On February 21st, 2007, CILS will be hosting a workshop entitled "Opening Doors to Information: Access for Students with Print Disabilities" in Vancouver at the Empire Landmark Hotel. We've scheduled this to coincide with the annual Disabilities Resource Network conference taking place on Februrary 19th and 20th.

This is a great opportunity to not only update your knowledge of alternate formats, but also to network with other practitioners.

Only 3% of all published material is made accessible to people with print disabilities. Yet 10% of the Canadian population has a print disability. How do we make our libraries their libraries too? Using the B.C. Post-Secondary experience, this workshop will explore access to library catalogues, library websites, online databases, information literacy and textbooks. Demonstrations of alternate formats will provide hands-on experience with diverse ways of looking at information. Handouts will assist registrants in their strategies towards making information accessible.

Registration is free to all participants. Lunch will be provided. Transportation and accommodation are the responsibility of the registrants. There is limited enrollment, so please register early by sending an email to cils@langara.bc.ca.

And watch for more information on the CILS homepage at http://www.langara.bc.ca/cils/.
