2007 250 and the Sunshine Coast Incentive Grant Program

If you are in the 250 area code or the Sunshine Coast, you can apply for a $750 grant from BCLA.
The BCLA Continuing Education Committee (CE) is pleased to present the 250 and the Sunshine Coast Incentive Grant Program to support BCLA members and member institutions in the 250 area code and the Sunshine Coast. The Grant Program hopes to facilitate learning opportunities for communities where library continuing education programs are not readily available. It aims to encourage and foster regional library continuing education library personnel and volunteers.
Under the program, a wide range of topics has been covered:
- Managing Electronic Resources - Victoria Library Association
- Planning for Change - North Coast Library Association
- Storytelling Workshop - Grand Forks Public Library
- Legal Resources and Reference Service - West Kootenay Library Association
- Public Relations and Library Advocacy - Peace River Library Association
- Developing a Parent-Baby Program in Your Library - Houston Public Library
- Reinforcing Literacy through Puppetry: How to Produce a Puppet Play - Kitimat Public Library
Other popular CE workshops to date include: Teaching Skills Workshop, Intercultural Communication Skills in Libraries, E-Book Business Models, First Nations Library Service, and Designing and Evaluating User Interfaces.
The deadline for events occurring from January to June is January 5th 2007. The deadline for events occurring from July to December is June 15th. Joint applications from neighboring libraries or associations are welcome. Each successful applicant will receive $750 which can be used with other grants for continuing education purposes. All profits from sessions remain with the sponsoring group.
