1st annual ALPS Sparkfest - Nov 24th
Introducing the 1st annual ALPS Sparkfest
Based on the wildly successful Hackfest http://www.access2006.uottawa.ca/?p=38, the 1st annual ALPS Sparkfest will provide an opportunity for librarians with a wide variety of skills and interests to get together in small groups and work collectively on a project that combines many aspects of academic library work.
Sparkfest will take place at Langara College on November 24th, 2006. Attendees will gather in the morning to meet one another and chose a project, and then break up into small groups to work on individual projects. We'll gather back together in the afternoon and each group will make a short presentation on what they've come up with.
We're looking for projects based on current issues and trends that require expertise in a variety of areas like technology, marketing, reference, and technical services.
So send us your project ideas by November 15th. Examples might include:
- a text-messaging service for short-term reserve materials
- an a la carte menu of library instruction
- using online social spaces to reach users
- how to take advantage of a peer learning model to promote the libraryamong faculty.
- and many, many more...
There's room for 25 to 30 people, so if you'd like to participate,
RSVP cdavis@langara.bc.ca soon!
