The BCLA Continuing Education Committee (CE) is pleased to present the 250 and the Sunshine Coast Incentive Grant Program to support BCLA members and member institutions in the 250 area code and the Sunshine Coast. The Grant Program hopes to facilitate learning opportunities for communities where library continuing education programs are not readily available. It aims to encourage and foster regional library continuing education library personnel and volunteers.
Under the program, a wide range of topics has been covered:
- Managing Electronic Resources - Victoria Library Association
- Planning for Change - North Coast Library Association
- Storytelling Workshop - Grand Forks Public Library
- Legal Resources and Reference Service - West Kootenay Library Association
- Public Relations and Library Advocacy - Peace River Library Association

- Reinforcing Literacy through Puppetry: How to Produce a Puppet Play - Kitimat Public Library
Other popular CE workshops to date include: Teaching Skills Workshop, Intercultural Communication Skills in Libraries, E-Book Business Models, First Nations Library Service, and Designing and Evaluating User Interfaces.
There will two grants awarded each year, one for January to June and the other for July to December. Joint applications from neighboring libraries or associations are welcome. Each successful applicant will receive $1000 which can be used with other grants for continuing education purposes. All profits from sessions remain with the sponsoring group.
